Equity Markets Surge to Record Levels Amid Renewed Risk Appetite

U.S. equities rallied strongly as improving geopolitical sentiment and strong investor risk appetite pushed markets to new highs. The S&P 500 gained 4.54% for the week and surpassed the 7,000 milestone for the first time, closing at 7,126.06. Technology stocks led the advance, driving the Nasdaq Composite up 6.84%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 3.19%. Global markets also

strengthened, with the MSCI World Index climbing 3.94%.

Macroeconomic Indicators Point to Moderating Inflation and Labour Market Strength

Macroeconomic releases pointed to continued resilience in the U.S. economy. The March Producer Price Index (PPI) indicated moderating upstream inflation pressures as energy base effects began to fade. At the same time, labour market indicators remained firm, with weekly jobless claims falling to 207,000, reinforcing the narrative of a still-resilient economy despite global uncertainties.

Sector Rotation Favors Growth Stocks While Energy and Defensives Lag

Sector performance during the week highlighted a strong rotation toward growth-oriented industries. Technology (+8.09%) emerged as the top performer as investors returned to large-cap technology stocks, while Consumer Discretionary (+6.64%) and Communication Services (+6.28%) also posted robust gains. In contrast, traditionally defensive sectors lagged the broader market, with Utilities (-1.69%) and Consumer Staples (-0.04%) posting slight declines. The Energy sector (-3.52%) was the weakest performer as oil prices retreated.
